The State of California Supports the Passage of the Uniting American Families Act

The CA state senate voted 23-12 on June 28 in support of AJR 15 (Assembly Joint Resolution 15) which formally requests that the United States Congress pass, and President Obama sign, the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA). The vote included bipartisan support. Federal passage of the UAFA will allow LGBT Americans and permanent residents to sponsor their foreign-born partner for immigration.

AJR 15 was passed by the CA state assembly in September last year.

You can read the news coverage here.

As part of the grassroots campaign, Out4Immigration and our allies have managed to secure support from about 20 cities to be on record in support of UAFA. We're working to create a groundswell of local support to be able to point out to our representatives in Congress that there is indeed a nationwide call to end the immigration discrimination faced by same-sex binational couples and our families.

We need more of you to help us get more support for the passage of UAFA and its inclusion in any Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) bill. It is very easy to do - please contact Tom Tierney for more information.
