Letter Writing - A Quick Update

by Kathy Drasky

The Out4Immigration Letter Writing Campaign for Week 12 is detailed in the post below this one. Week 12 -- that's 3 months! Special thanks to our volunteer Gina who coordinates this every week. She drafts the letter, she selects the target(s) from our lists of past UAFA supporters, LGBT caucus and/or immigration subcommittee members and she posts the letter to the Out4Immigration Yahoo groups.

If you're not a member of Out4Immigration, you can join by going here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/out4immigration/

Lots of more in-depth discussion and ideas generate here, so if you're not taking part and want to be more involved in strategy planning and grassroots activism: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/out4immigration/ is the place to be.

I also want to let everyone know that two of Out4Immigration's founding members, Amos and Mickey Lim, who have worked tirelessly at this cause for many years, have been organizing and meeting with a number of staffers of key Representatives. In the past month they have had face-to-face meetings with key staff for Rep. Mike Honda (who has introduced the Reuniting American Families Act in Congress), Rep. Jackie Speier (who was instrumental in working with Sen. Dianne Feinstein in getting the emergency stay or deportation bill passed for Shirley Tan), Rep. Zoe Lofgren (Chair of the Immigration Subcommittee) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. All of these staffers have been impressed with our letter writing campaign and encourage us to continue.

So, if you haven't joined Out4Immigration yet, make today be the day. And remember, you can also find us on Facebook and Twitter (just search "Out4Immigration") as well as this great space on Change.org.
